In the past few weeks, we at Fake Geeks have been coming up with examples of Marvel characters we would like brought to the silver screen. Here is part three.
So far, we have had a magic-based character and a space-based character. For those that missed out previous features, you can check them out here and here.
This weeks sees our film editor Mike return for his second pick, and he’s gone for a different kind of character entirely.
__________
Iron Fist
Mike Says:
“Unlike Doctor Strange, I’ve not done fantasy casting for Iron Fist, although there were rumours of Ray Park taking the lead role in an adaptation discussed a few years ago.
As the Marvel universe’s premier martial artist, an Iron Fist movie would be something like a Marvel Universe Ong-Bak, or could be done in the style of something a little more western audience friendly such as Enter the Dragon. Either way it’d be crammed full of frenetically edited, adrenaline fuelled hand-to-hand combat sequences and the unique style of the combat scenes and the character could really help the movie find a niche inside the Marvel Film Universe. It would appeal to martial arts fans who otherwise aren’t into super heroics and could become a real cult hit.
The problem with an Iron Fist adaptation is the character’s backstory. Created in the 1970′s in the midst of the Bruce Lee inspired Kung-Fu craze, Iron Fist’s origin story is the bastard child of a million cheap seventies martial arts flicks. It is both ludicrous and complex, even by comic book standards, and wouldn’t fit the ‘realistic’ tone of the Marvel Film Universe. Worse, it’d probably just come across as laughable on screen. Even the comics like to sort of tip-toe around parts of it. The way I see it, an Iron Fist movie would either have to do the backstory tongue-in-cheek fashion with a loving wink and a nod to all those martial arts B-Movies, doing to superhero films what say, Machete did to exploitation movies; or the alternative would be to eschew backstory almost entirely and adapt a story from the excellent, award-winning 2006-2009 Iron Fist comic book run, written by the likes of Ed Brubaker, Duane Swierczynski and Matt Fraction. A third alternative would be to team Iron Fist up with his old buddy Luke Cage, a man with impenetrable skin, in a movie based on their popular 1980′s comic book series Heroes for Hire.”

What do you think of Mike’s choice? Would you like to see Iron Fist in a Marvel movie? Who would you cast as Danny Rand? Tell us below.

Still have some copies of Heroes for Hire. Not sure about Danny Rand maybe Chris Hemsworths brother from Hunger Games could pull it off on an outside shot. Tell you what though She Hulk could be an interesting choice but if we were to consider Female based films how About Silver Sable and her Wild Pack?

This is how they did it in the new Avengers movie. Although they gave Cage a laughable accent, the introduction of the characters really worked for me.

Tony – She Hulk would be an interesting choice. Who would you choose to play her?
Andy – Heroes for Hire could work. Who would play Cage?

She Hulk – any number of action heroines from TV – Yvonne Strahovski, Sarah Michael Gellar, any of the ‘Dollhouse’ girls. Hell, any female Whedon alum could do the job.
HFH are a little harder. I think I’d have Chow Yun Fat as Danny. As for Cage, Michael Clark Duncan again would’ve been good, but he’s getting a bit old for it now. A bulked up Will.i.am, who was surprisingly good in Wolverine (I thought). Maybe Isaiah Mustafa?
